Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach
Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach sits in a sheltered, south west-facing cove on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula in south west Cornwall. It is a sandy beach, at the north end of which, below the cliffs, sits the small church with detached bell tower that give the beach its name.
Church Cove is a popular family beach, and an ideal watersports (in particular surfing and swimming) venue. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the peak summer months. Overlooking the beach is Mullion Golf Club, which boasts fine views over the Lizard coastline.
Mullion and Mullion Cove holiday cottages offer self catering accommodation near Church Cove. Holiday cottages in Helston (7 miles by road), Falmouth (15 miles) and Penzance (20 miles) provide further self catering options.
The beach is set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is also part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are fine coastal walks along the South West Coast Path, which links Church Cove with Gunwalloe Fishing Cove Beach to the north and Poldhu Cove to the south.
A National Trust car park, with disabled access, is located by the beach, from where the beach can easily be accessed. Toilets are provided near the car park. Refreshments are provided during peak seasons. The nearby town of Mullion offers further facilities, including shops and cafs. Dogs are not permitted on Church Cove Beach from Easter to October.
