Great Western beach is one of four beaches in Newquay, Cornwall (the others being Lusty Glaze, Tolcarne, and Towan beach), which combine at low tide to form a glorious mile-long stretch of sands. Great Western is a sheltered, north-west-facing beach.
Great Western is a beach popular with both surfers and families alike, with caves in the surrounding cliffs and rock pools to explore at low tide. It is situated between Towan and Tolcarne beaches on the north Cornwall coast.
Access to the beach is via a steep cliff-top path or from the other beaches at low tides. There is disabled access to the beach via a private lift from the Great Western Hotel. Facilities include cafes, toilets and surfing equipment hire. The Reef Surf Centre, which provides surfing tuition and hire, is located on the beach.
A short walk from Newquay town centre, Great Western is the nearest beach to Newquay Railway Station, where car parking is available. Lifeguards patrol the beach from May to September.
