Torpoint is a relatively modern Cornish town on the Rame Peninsula. The city of Plymouth sits on the opposing, Devon, side of the River Tamar. Some stretches of coarse beach at Torpoint are revealed at low tide, but the setting is not traditionally picturesque.
The nearby beaches of Kingsand and Cawsand (6½ miles from Torpoint by road) provide more traditional beach settings. The National Trust property, Antony house and gardens, is nearby, as is Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park. From Torpoint, Plymouth can easily be accessed via car and passenger ferry.
The town of Torpoint offers most facilities, many more of which are to be found in the city of Plymouth.
